The Bloody Elbow team has made its own forecasts for UFC 234, and it’s a clean sweep for Robert Whittaker to shield his middleweight title by beating Kelvin Gastelum, whilst everybody is backing Israel Adesanya over Anderson Silva from the co-main event. To put it differently, congrats to Gastelum and Silva on their wins Saturday.

Robert Whittaker vs. Kelvin Gastelum
Anton Tabuena: Two former welterweights fighting for the middleweight belt. Will this convince individuals that intense weight cutting actually isn’t worth the trade off in operation? Likely not, but this should be a fun bout either way at least. I believe this will be closer than what the odds state, but I think Whittaker is just marginally better just about anywhere, so he must take this. Robert Whittaker by choice.
Mookie Alexander: Gastelum absolutely has an opportunity here. He’s got strong hands, insane strength — not Whittaker’s durability is to be scoffed at by any means — and superb cardio. However, he’s not going to be able to take Whittaker down (or at least maintain him ), and Whittaker has way more depth to his attacking striking. His leg kicks in particular can slow Gastelum down, and now I believe he dismisses angles and combines his attack selection and goals more effectively than Kelvin. It is going to be a close battle through the opening few rounds however Whittaker will come on strong in the later rounds and get the win. Robert Whittaker by unanimous decision.
